From apprenticing as a youth to establishing his own studio, the Master has dedicated decades to meticulous traditional Chinese painting. Meticulous heavy-color painting emphasizes "fine-line outlining and layer-by-layer rendering." A single tiger painting often requires dozens of hours and tens of thousands of strokes: first a plain outline, then meticulous rendering of fur, gradually bringing to life the fine strands of the tiger's fur and the majestic intensity of its gaze.

He often says, "To paint a tiger, one must first paint its bones. When the tiger's bones stand firm, its spirit can command mountains and rivers."
